FUTURE YARD is a live music venue, industry training and a regional hub for music performance. EBC previously worked with Future Yard and Architectural Emporium in 2020/21, to help deliver music practice rooms and a 350-capacity performance space, within the existing building. These have subsequently brought some of today’s most exciting new artists to Birkenhead, and have provided early opportunities for emerging local acts.
Work is now underway on the next phase, which will deliver a new-build, 600-capacity indoor live venue, which will be connected to the existing building by a new-build two-storey studio complex. This project is a key component of the Wirral Council 2040 Framework, and is due for completion in Autumn 2026.
The site has presented EBC with some complex structural design challenges. The disused railway alongside the site is at a lower level, and is separated from Future Yard by a tall brick Victorian retaining wall.
EBC have designed piled foundations, and have coordinated this design with Network Rail, to ensure the Future Yard development does not compromise the railway infrastructure. The new two-storey studios will bridge across the existing single storey building, requiring long-span structures and cantilevered supports.
Cost: £3m.
Under construction, due complete: September 2026.
