A dilapidated and part-used Grade II Listed building was remodelled and repaired to create a contemporary mixed-use building in the heart of the Market & Underbanks Conservation Area in Stockport.
The scheme was part of the ‘Rediscovering the Underbanks’ project; a Heritage Lottery Fund Townscape Heritage Initiative. The project included reinstatement of the historic stone-arched shopfront, and a new coworking space on the top floor for creative businesses, together with structural alterations and strengthening to prepare the building for a future rooftop terrace.
EBC worked closely with architects (Kelsall Architects) to deliver the sensitively designed scheme, which won the RIBA Northwest Small Project of the Year 2024.
