Global Grooves are an arts organisation, and were the first Tameside-based company to achieve Arts Council funding. Prior to the scheme in Mossley, their music, dance and visual arts activities were dispersed over different sites.
The consolidated site is located in a former mill in an industrial area on the edge of Mossley. The main wing of the scheme delivered artist workshops and studios, together with a music & dance studio and theatre space. In a separate wing, artist accommodation was created.
EBC Ltd worked closely with Architectural Emporium, and were responsible for the design of the structural alterations and repairs, in particular the sensitive strengthening of existing curved timber trusses above the theatre space.
Strengthening was required so roof coverings could be replaced with heavier finishes, to provide upgraded acoustic and thermal performance, and to allow audio-visual equipment to be suspended below the roof.
